Week 18: Fishi Leaks

First the Christmas tree in Week 15 and now the dang fish tank is leaking! When it rains, it pours. Hmmm… there’s a painful pun in there somewhere but I can’t find it.

With 75 gallons of our little finned friend’s habitat threatening to flood the living room, it’s a call to act fast or face a much bigger problem.

Step one: Start a siphon to relieve pressure before the whole shebang bursts like a bumble bee on the windshield leaving Nemo and his pals tragically homeless.

Step two: Get the water off the floor before it has a chance to soak in and warp the hardwood. Fortunately this amounted to less than a gallon. A Waterblade and plastic dustpan was much faster than trying to find the wet-dry vac in all of the garage clutter.

Step three: With just a single towel the floor is now completely dry! We left the towel to catch what was still piddling from the aquarium as we transferred our swimmers out of harms way.

Fortunately there was a collection of old tanks available that happened to be cluttering up the garage (being a pack-rat paid off this time).  Oh look… There’s my wet-dry vac under that old fish tank!

Shameless Plug: Just about any Waterblade will do the trick for scooping up liquid in a hurry. We used the Shop Blade for the convenient handle and extra scoopability that makes it easy to use with a dustpan.
